More than 100 masterpieces from the Cavallini Sgarbi Collection on display at the Estense Castle of Ferrara

On Saturday, February 3rd, at the Este Castle of Ferrara, the exhibition “La collezione Cavallini Sgarbi. Da Niccolò dell’Arca a Gaetano Previati. Tesori d’arte per Ferrara” will open to the public.
 
The exhibition is dedicated to the Cavallini Sgarbi Collection, 130 works of art with paintings and sculptures, from the beginning of the XV Century to the XX Century, which have been collected by the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi and his family, and come from the Cavallini Sgarbi Foundation. Elisabetta Sgarbi, on behalf of her Foundation, wanted this exhibition to tell the story of a great cultural activity and of a very passionate family of art collectors in Ferrara.

A River of Music 2017

Ferrara, music aperitifs along the river every Thursday night .

During the months of June and July, every Thursday night from 7 PM, the “Docks” area in front of Palazzo Savonuzzi will become a square on the river, due to the music aperitifs organized by Scuola di Musica Moderna-Associazione Musicisti di Ferrara.

Every Thursday, it will be possible to listen to live music, and it will also possible to taste delicious dishes prepared by “Ristorante Max”, “La Romantica”, “Pronto Pesce” and “Golosità Ferraresi”.

From 9,30 PM to 11,30 PM, “Nena b-side” will be organized, with its night navigations.

“Un Fiume di Musica” is organized in collaboration with Consorzio Wunderkammer, within the “Smart Dock” Project and the “Giardino Creativo” Project.

Palio di Ferrara

A month of celebrations, parades, flag-throwing competitions and a spectacular horse race in Piazza Ariostea.

The Palio was made official in 1279 and rapidly transformed into the symbol of a glorious and fascinating Renaissance.

Since then rituals and dates have only changed slightly, celebration in the town has not been altered. A month of celebrations, parades, races and competitions between the eight Contrade [quarters tied to the parish] to win the precious drape dedicated to Saint George, the patron saint of Ferrara.

The already warm month of May welcomes the figurants in original costume who parade through the streets of the city centre and the hard-fought flag-throwing competitions in Piazza del Municipio take us up to the spectacular horse race in Piazza Ariostea.

From October to April the Torrione San Giovanni, a splendid round tower along the Renaissance city walls, becomes a venue for jazz lovers.

Since 1999, the Jazz Club is hosted by the beautiful Torrione di San Giovanni, which is a part of the city walls. There, it is possible to enjoy about 90 concerts, from September to late April.

Many important characters of the international jazz panorama have played there, making one of the best European jazz clubs out of it.
Many collaborations have been organized in the last few years: with Ferrara Musica, Ferrara Arte, Conservatorio G. Frescobaldi, Memorial Mirto Govoni, Jazz Cafè dell’Antica Fiera di Portomaggiore, and Bologna Jazz Festival.
