Christmas in Ferrara 2016 and New Year’s Eve 2017

Piazza Trento Trieste

With its typical wooden chalets, the Christmas Village includes handicrafts, charity shops, many events and a special lottery. Events and shows for kids and adults will be organized.

The opening is scheduled for Saturday, November 29th, with a gastronomic event,  “Calici d’Autunno”, organized by Feshion Eventi.

City Centre

A very magic moment, the lighting of the Christmas lights in the city centre, in Piazza Trento e Trieste, Piazza del Municipio, and Corso Martiri della Libertà. It will start with a concert in collaboration with Conservatorio G. Frescobaldi, then it will continue with spectacular moments, with the actor Stefano Muroni and the sand artist Mauro Masi.

Piazza Verdi

The traditional ice skating rink, mt 14 x 28, may contain a maximum of 100 people ant it is a

very good chance to try fun on ice!

Opening times: from 10.00  AM to 1.00 PM; from 2.30 PM to 7.30 and to 8.30 to 11.30 PM – From Monday to Friday without limits of time; Saturdays, Holidays and pre-Holidays 1-hour limit.

 

Piazza Cattedrale

A traditional Christmas tree, 13 mt tall, with a thousand decorations made of Murano glass. The setting of the tree will be completed with a light and music show on the day of its lighting, and many light effects on the following days.

At the end of Christmas period, its decorations will be sold for charity: funds will be given to “Il Mantello”, Emporio Solidale.

Piazza XXIV Maggio

Ski slope with real ice and snow, and an ice skating rink for children. A 70-metres alpine skiing slope, and a 28×10 metres ice skating rink, for kids and accompanying adults. Decathlon Ice Park has a refreshment area, themed markets, shows and presentations of new products.

A great Christmas tree, offered by Unione dei Comuni dell’Alto Reno, will light up the atmosphere. Opening ceremony and lighting of the Tree: Friday December 2nd, 6 PM.

10.00 AM – 1.00 PM and  2.00 – 6.00  PM Snow Tubing

6.00 – 8.00 PM and 9.00 PM Ski Slope

Opening hours (ice skating rink ): every day,

From 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM – from 2.00 to 6.00 PM – from 9.00 to11.00 PM . (1-hour shifts).

 

Piazza Castello

The “Water and Fire Show”, one of the biggest in the world, is set in a new location, aside the Este Castle. The show, by Simone Fiaschi, is completed by a fascinating soundtrack, with pop, classic and traditional music, and by a screen show on a water screen. The event lasts approximately 40 minutes from 6.00 PM, with a replay at 7,.30 PM:

 

A whole weekend will be dedicated to families and children. Games, events and animation at the Christmas Village in Piazza Trento Trieste, and at the Imbarcaderi of the Este Castle (in collaboration with Feshion Eventi). On Saturday, December 17th, from 4.30 PM, the choir “Piccoli Cantori di San Francesco” in concert.

 

Piazza Castello

In Piazza Castello, on December 24th, a great concert with jazz, swing, pop and traditional music.

Castello Estense Moat

Organized by Gruppo Subacqueo Ferrarese. A torchlight parade of scuba divers who will deliver the Holy Child in his traditional crèche, on the moat of the Castle.

 

New Year’s Day in Ferrara is one of the most peculiar events in Europe: a big party will take place in the city centre, reaching its climax with the great fireworks show at the Estense Castle. During the show, fire cascades and glowing fountains will light up the night in a very colourful and festive atmosphere, recalling the old times and the myths of the past, along with the charming sound of popular songs and soundtracks.

This event is a tradition in town: in fact, it has been organized since many years, and it is loved by adults and children, young people and families, who enjoy this friendly and bright feast, until the late night.
